Etsy BeadWEavers Monthly Challenge Voting!

Voting has started on the Challenge pieces.

http://etsy-beadweavers.blogspot.com

There are 32 entries this month. Choices, choices.

To vote, on the right side, click on the small circle next to the number of the piece you want to vote for, then click Vote! at the bottom of the list.

And pass this on to as many as you think would be interested, so we get more votes overall!

Thanks!

Help me, Obi Wan Beaders, you're my only hope!

My recent email to the EtsyBeadWeavers list...}:P

Sorry, couldn't resist.

So anyway, the buyer for 'Spring in the Forest' ( http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=7643534 ), convo'd me with a question that I really don't have a clear cut answer for...

"I was wondering if you also do custom
pieces in the freeform necklace? "

*twitches*

I have never been asked this before, so I have no clue how to go about answering the question. I mean, obviously it would depend on what they have in mind- color, size, beads, etc.

But in terms of pricing, do I get a deposit, what.. I have no answer...

What do YOU do? WHATdo you do? WHAT DO you do? WHAT DO YOU DO????

}:P

( I' a little nuts, what can I say)

Update-

It's a deal. I got my first FREEFORM PEYOTE Stitch beadwork commission.}:) This is huge for me. Wow. I'm still giddy.}:P

2nd Place is just as nice..

Congrats to AnotherCountry for winning the Etsy BeadWeavers Monthly Challenge for Feb08!

I came in 2nd. Apparently it was a very close race, I lost by 1 vote.

See I don't check the blog during Challenge voting very often. That way, I can be surprised like this. Mind you, I promote the hel out of the Challenges and such, I just don't look at the voting scores after I cast my initial vote, except maybe once or twice (my vote went to Enso's gorgeous piece, incidentaly, and I could have sworn that piece would vastly beat mine, go figure)

I looked at it this morning prior to heading into work (yes, I still have a regular job, it's a 1-2 times a month thing.}:P, means extra money for beads, silks, chainmaille rings and dyes), so knew I'd come in second.

What I didn't know was that AnotherCountry got called away on personal matters and had dropped out of the Challenge before the voting had ended.

It made sense to leave her piece in there, after all, she did create a very cool piece for the Challenge and does deserve every vote she got, that Pony was alot of work!

Because of her withdrawal, the choosing of the Monthly Challenge theme for April fell to me, as 2nd place winner. So I guess I did win, in a round about way.

Pretty cool.

Except now.. I have to think up a theme. And I hadn't put ANY thought into it. After all, I didn't win.}:P

EBWC, next month...

So, next month's Challenge is 'Stormy Weather' and it appears that I'll have 2 entries for this one again.

Towards that end, I had to run to A.C. Moore for some pin backs for one piece.

Me- I need to go to A.C. Moore to get pin backs.

Mark- Pin backs?

Me- Yeah, you know, pin backs.

Mark- *look of uncomprehension* What are pin backs?

Me- You know a pin? Well, it has a pin. back.

Mark- *dawning of understanding* Ohh... I get it.

Me- I'm blind now. The light bulb over your head just blinded me.

Mark- Why didn't you just say you needed a pin?

Me- Because I have pins, upstairs in that square plastic container. I need pin backs.

Mark- Whatever.

Me- You truly are a blonde sometimes, you know that?

Mark- Bite me.

Yeah, it's fun sometimes in my house.}

EtsyBeadWeavers Monthly Challenge, 'Spring Break', Feb 08, Entry..

Honestly wasn't sure I'd get this piece finished.

It'd been an unfinished piece that I'd work on every so often in between other pieces for so long, that I think it started thinking it'd never get completed.

So when the Challenge Theme was announced for this month, I knew that this piece would be perfect for it. Then of course, real life intervened, what with family visiting and my dad's heart issues again.

But! I finally finished it, early this morning, around 1am. I cut it real close this time, again, as the Challenge entry timeframe ends on Tuesday.}:)

Make sure you go by the Etsy BeadWeavers to vote on the gorgeous creations being presented! Voting starts on Weds, I believe, maybe Thursday.

"Spring In The Forest"

Working on my entry piece for the EtsyBeadWeavers Monthly Challenge Dec-Jan, 'RED'.

Have it a little over halfway finished.
Etsy Beadweavers Monthly Challenge, November.

So, the Esty BeadWeavers monthly challenge for November was 'Caught In a Net', using a netweave beadstitch primarily in your piece.

I started out with one idea, playing off the words in the title of the challenge and rapidly got bored. That piece will be finished, just not for this challenge.

I decided to finish a piece I'd started a year or so ago and use it instead for my challenge entry piece. Finally finished it tonight, not because it was complicated, I LOVE doing the netweave stitch (and peyote and spiral rope chain and...), but I just kept getting sidetracked, as well as the individual componants of the piece took awhile to make.

I had the idea laid out in my head, then I decided that instead of trying to describe it to Mark, I'd sketch it out and show him that way. Yes, I play ideas off of my husband, yes he's biased in that everything I make, he invariably loves. But he comes up with good names for my pieces and often sees things I don't, so I use his brain that way alot.}:P

I also used the sketch to lay out the pieces and see if it would work the way I intended it to. I don't do this often enough, I think.

Sometimes using a form is easier than a flat piece of paper, so I also used my display to place the componants and see what adjustments needed to be made, if I needed more componants or not. And whether I want it to be completely flat or have some curves and waves to it.

But in the end, it all came together and you have to look several times to see all the Huichol BeadLace stars/snowflakes amid the freeform netweave.}:P For the record, there are 30 of them.

It does not lay flat, it flows, curves and is very organic in form and shape. It's not heavy, per se, but it has some slight weight to it, that lets you know it is definately there. The lampwork 'snowballs' catch the light and shimmer slightly, the clear Druks and faceted clear rondelles are crystalline pieces of ice, the iridescent clear beads reflect the light in a rainbow of colors, like bits of ice, and the cobalt roses, leaves, Druks and beads absorb the light, bringing a touch of cold to the piece, all with hints of varying shades of blues scattered throughout.

Come join the 'Snow Garden Waltz'...
