PSA

"I am just putting an SOS out this afternoon as today alone we have heard of 8 EIGHT Akitas in need and the possibility of euthanising due to lack of room. Akita rescue is in crisis mode right now so please, network all possible sources that you have for foster homes, funds for kenneling costs, good Akita savvy permanent homes as more than ever, it is now needed. We have heard of puppies, adults, and seniors and the shelters are getting hit the same way. Pass the word as each and every Akita rescue is in need.

Yes, it's THAT serious, folks.

Head, meet brick wall...

There's a person on an email list I'm on that wants a puppy.

Yet.. doesn't feel they need to have to pay what they term 'exorbinant amounts' for it. Feels that Rescues try to dictate exactly how you raise your dog. That Rescues ask huge fees for dogs they get from Shelters for 35.00.

I try to explain that Rescues have their adoption fees to cover boarding costs, vet fees, spay/neuter, etc. That it's by no means cheap to run a rescue successfully. That most dogs in Rescue are from puppy mills, abuse situations, dumped by owners who didn't realise how much work they'd be, dumped because the puppy mill didn't do genetic testing and the dog needs major vet care... etc, etc..

Goes right over their head.

Remember the Palmdale Akitas?

Well, there will be a second auction held in August. I've been aslked if I would be willing to donate a few items. That is cool.}:P

I'll post links to the actualy auction site when it's up. I plan to send them a couple silk scarves, so if you wanted one but were waiting, this would be an AWESOME time to get them, maybe even at a lower cost.

They're also looking for more donated items, not neccessarily Akita or dog related. So if you're interested, let me know and I'll get you the contact info.

Dog Fancy Magazine is preparing to do a feature where the Breed of Akita will be highlighted along with the Maltese. Although we will be featured as the second breed highlighted in their magazine, they have interviewed two very well respected members of our community for their input and postive media attention for our breed is needed especially now with all the breed specific legislation occurring.

Rescue Groups nationwide are getting together to place an Ad for rescue and although we are getting reduced rates for the ad, we ask for your help in donations for the cost of the ad.
We have been quoted $1423.75 for a full page color ad or 888.25 for one-half page full color ad. We need to commit to this ad with the next couple of weeks so time is of the essence.

We feel that placing this advertisement showing the Akita rescue groups Nationwide and their contacts will help promote the orphans in need and also give the interested readers a place to hopefully get information and education on the breed of Akita.

MARS has offered our Pay Pal account to collect these donations and if you feel you would like to help, go to www.Akitas.org and any of the "donation" or "Sponsor an Orphan" buttons will take you to Pay Pal. Just please indicate that you are donating for the Rescue Ad and list your mailing address so that your donation can be properly acknowledged.

Rescue thanks you and the orphans will benefit.

Madison, IL woman faces animal cruelty charges

When police arrived at 1543 Third St. in Madison, they found four Akita-type dogs, all with their ribs showing through the skin. The officers -- a deputy from the Madison County Sheriff's Department and an officer from Madison -- broke into the locked house on Oct. 23 to issue foreclosure papers to 48-year-old Karen Rush Watt and to evict her from the house.

They were met by the stench of dried feces and week-old dog urine.

Madison County Sheriff's Lt. Brad Wells said Monday that the dogs had been left inside the house with no food or water for about a week.

A representative from a mortgage company told police that he had come to the house a week earlier but had been unable to get inside, Wells said.

One of the dogs was suffering so badly it had to be euthanized by a Madison officer, Wells said.

The three others were so weak they had to be carried to the Madison County Animal Control truck, according to a news release. They were later euthanized, Wells said.

On Monday, Madison County State's Attorney Bill Mudge charged Watt with four counts of aggravated animal cruelty. Associate Judge James Hackett set her bail at $30,000. Police have been unable to find Watt, Wells said.

Court records show that Watt was awarded the house in a 2004 divorce settlement.

In December of 2003, Watt was fined $25 and given 30 days court supervision for allowing a dog to run free in the neighborhood. In 1998, the city of Madison cited her for an ordinance violation for permitting a dog to run free.

Transport Needed! Sept 16th.

HARRISONBURG, VA to WINCHESTER, VA and BALTIMORE, MD to CARNEY'S POINT, NJ.

http://community.livejournal.com/driveforlife/913166.html

Transport has been cancelled.  Bane died overnight/early this morning.

I'm going to go hug my Dante now.

Edit, 1214pm, Sept 13, 2006 -  I talked to the foster. Bain went to sleep and did not wake up this morning. She only had him for 3 weeks but he made a huge impression on her. She is a wreck about this. He was a rescue from his former owners who were going to have him put down after his lifelong companion, another male Akita, died and he was mourning him. Rather than deal with the mourning and loneliness, they opted to kill him, hence the reason he was rescued.

For 3 weeks, he was loved and safe. He had a forever home waiting for him this weekend. Now he is with his friend and in a forever home permenantly.

Semper Fi, Bain.

For Rocky

In the early morning hours of July 21, 2006, a 4 year old Akita named Rocky lay dying as the result of being shot in the face with both barrels of a shotgun during a domestic violence altercation.

In the rural area of East Bend, NC, on the night of July 20,Martin Spivey, 47, who was estranged from his family, became intoxicated, borrowed a double-barrel shotgun from a friend and drove to the family home where he quarreled with his wife. Their two young children were present during the altercation. Spivey threatened his wife, then turned, took aim, and shot Rocky in the face with both barrels of the shotgun.

With a police escort, a kind-heart veterinarian went to the home to assess the dog, which was still in his pen but had crawled under part of the house. With the assistance of a local police officer, the veterinarian pulled Rocky, unconscious, from under the house. At approximately 2:00 a.m. on July 21, Rocky was humanely euthanized due to his devastating injuries, and was released from the suffering and torture Mr. Spivey had caused. Rocky was a longcoated Akita that had been rescued from a shelter in Winston-Salem early in 2006 and was available for adoption.

Spivey was arrested and charged with communicating threats and Class I felony animal cruelty, and remains in custody at the Yadkin County Detention Center. He now has been assigned a court-appointed attorney and has a trial date set for mid-August in Yadkinville, NC.

Update on the Stolen Akitas...

Re this post.

(I guess the Male escaped and whoever stole them tried to shoot him, Update #2 is MIA) REMEMBER,THESE ARE NOT MY DOGS.

PLEASE IF ANYONE ONE IS IN THIS AREA>PLEASE HELP FIND THE FEMALE AKITA..CHEATHAM CO. TENN.

Subject: Two Akita's stolen UPDATE # 3.  Very BAD news Dog has been shot

we just returned from the vet... most of his injuries were caused from trying to escape a small confined space.  He has muscle damage, bald spots, lacerations, torn pads and he has been shot.  The vet said IF I do not find her or someone does not find her she will die in whatever cage they have her in.  He had lost 4 lbs and is thin... in that short of period.  He will probably lose his eye, she is not feeling any fractures or breaks but is worried about his hips and muscles.  we go back in Saturday morning to have buckshot removed from his face (we got to get the swelling down first).  The piece that went into his eye severed part of the muscles that attach the eye to the socket.
PLEASE if anyone out near Cheatham county has time I am combing every inch of everywhere.. I have got to find her!

Two Akita's STOLEN TODAY Near Nash, TN. - CROSSPOST WIDELY!!

"I was gone all day yesterday painting a condo, and all of my dogs were stuck inside, so today when I had to leave 3 would not come in, did not want to come in, and despite my best judgement left with them out in the 6 foot fenced yard with locked gates.  I came home from my dentist appointment to find a portion of my fence messed with, and TWO of those three dogs GONE.  Animal Control was closed already, Cheatham County Sherriff's department did take a report. (Ashland City, TN).  They tore the fencing apart where it met up with my house to get them out, and then TRIED to put it back together??? They attached it all messed up, and they LEFT the third dog there.

The two are pure bred Akita's, one male and one female.

Rhuorc Asha'man is a male brindle who has had eye surgery for entropia, has no really special features BUT is MICRO Chipped. His last weigh in (less than a month ago) was 94 lbs.  He is on eye ointment for his eyes, they drain a bit here and there. He is very SCARED of strangers and WILL run away from people.  If anyone sees someone with him or sees him if he got away YOU MUST squat down or SIT to get him to approach ( I call him Rhuorcie poo).  He was wearing silver choker with fort campbell rabies tags and a micro chip tag from HOME AGAIN.

The female, Takirra Nikkita, is a red fawn with cream chest and black face.? She is extremely friendly but SUBMISSIVE and crawls on her belly to approach people.  She will urinate on herself if she feels scared and has even gotten to scared at the vet that she released her anal glands. She has a broken tail (born that way or happened early on in life).  She has a HOME AGAIN micro chip as well. Her last weigh in was 89 lbs.  Silver collar but no tags on her (she ate her collar last week and have not gotten her a new one). Both area leash trained, house trained and crate trained.  Both are under the age of two.

They have NEVER spent a night outside since they have been with me. Neither are fighters, unless they have to defend themselves. There preference would be to run away.  The female gets very car sick (stress) and will drool and vomit. Rhuorc rides shot gun with me, and LOVES to be in the vehicle, but if you leave him there alone he CHEWS on anything he can (his way of saying he is mad about it).

PLEASE if anyone hears of someone with MY dogs, or seeing someone with these. CALL Cheatham County AC and or law enforcement immediately.

You can contact me at: 615- 952- 5020 or my cell at: 615- 491- 8946.

I will not be able to sleep right until I have my babies back...
Please HELP! "
