Because nothing is ever easy here- we have to buy a new PS3. The old one cannot be fixed cheaper than buying a new one.

There's a circuit that controls the optical drive & is integrated into the motherboard , that circuit is apparently fried. To replace it, the entire motherboard would also have to be replaced.

So. Yeah. New PS3, a 320gig at that, would be cheaper than fixing our current 160gig.

Guess what we'll be getting for Christmas, maybe? Yeah. *headdesk*

No Assassin's Creed indefinitely. Not happy to say the least.
