A doll that looks like, acts like and fools people into believing it's a real baby.
I can see so many women who've lost a baby, using these to hold on and keep that loss fresh in their minds and hearts, instead of grieving and attempting to heal. I can see this keeping them from actually LIVING their lives instead. I can see them attempting to replace the loss with a fake baby.
On the other hand, if used properly in a school teaching type setting, I can see the possibility of these helping to deter teenage pregnancy.
In the end, it's a DOLL. And personally I think there's something not quite right about pushing a carriage with this doll in it and pretending it's a real child. Denial, anyone? If you want a child so badly, then either have one or adopt one.
Don't get me wrong, I can see how it would help some people to grieve and move on. but there's just not something quite RIGHT about these people who don't have kids, have never had kids, putting this DOLL in a baby carriage, pushing it around town, in parks, stores, etc, and acting like it's a REAL BABY.
If you miss your grandchild SO MUCH that you absolutely have to buy a DOLL to replace him, what kind of message does that send to the living child? That you'd rather spend the money on a doll than go and actually visit him.
And using a fake baby just for attention as you walk down the street? WTF is wrong with you?!? This same woman, who found an imperfection in her doll, says it's ruined. While I'd have to agree that it's alot of money to spend on something and you'd want it to be in good condition, her reaction is .. off the wall. She won't touch the doll now. Her whole demeanor changes. Hello! Real babies aren't perfect either! Maybe it's a good thing she never had kids.
Now if you get one just to collect them because you collect dolls, all well and good. But it's the people who get them to replace a lost child or because they haven't had any kids but want one, there's something not quite RIGHT about that.
It just all strikes me as unhealthy.
Mark says they creep him out. Yeah I'd have to agree.
"...makes me think of something like on a mortuary slab." YES! EXACTLY! That's partly why it creeps me out so bad.
Personally, I'd rather have one of these instead. Especially since I know the creator.}:P AND she has a doll up on Ebay.
