The breaker upstairs kept flipping and I couldn't figure out why.
Then I heard 'popping' noises coming from the bedroom, so I went to check it out, just as the breaker flipped again. Then I caught a whiff of burnt wires and saw smoke curl out from under the chair next to the dresser the 30 gal fish tank is sitting on.
I tell you what, clothes baskets and that chair were never moved so quickly before. The prongs on the adaptor on the protector are bent from me yanking it out of the wall.
Seems water had dripped down onto the surge protector and caused it to start shorting out. Still haven't figured out where the water was coming from. The protector is currently completely unplugged from anything and nowhere near an outlet, sitting on the design table behind me.
It has a visably burnt and warped area on the side, as well as a melted area on the bottom.
All I can say is, that I'm glad I was home. And that it definately did its job.
