Can you imagine..

Surviving an explosion only to be trapped with exactly one hour of breathable oxygen, not knowing whether you'd get out or not.

"Miners were alive after accident

Hatfield said it was apparent that the miners, who were found 13,000 feet into the mine, remained alive for a period of time following the explosion. They had built a "rough barricade structure," he said, and had donned their self-contained breathing apparatuses. The apparatuses held one hour of oxygen; Hatfield said he had no way of knowing how long the miners were alive."

Can you imagine running out of that air , in the dark, underground, knowing that your family is waiting for you.

Can you imagine knowing they are coming to rescue you, and realising you may not make it.

I can't.

I bet those men fought for every scrap of life they could.

I bet they didn't go easy in that long dark.

I can not even begin to imagine what those 12 men went through down there.

Be thankful for the life you have ahead of you, live today to its fullest, tell your family you love them,  have no regrets, for you never, ever know when, like those men, it may be your last day here.

I am appalled and sorely tempted to call.

The news here, local news, does a spotlight on puppies and dogs at the SPCA to be adopted.

They had akita mix puppies on today.

The misinformation they are spouting as well as lack of information, about the breed is appalling.

Guess what, Akitas shed twice a year, so saying you don't know whether he'll shed or not- come on already.

Yes he's going to be large(look at those paws!), but saying he's a strictly indoors dog? Akitas need lots of exercise so they don't become 'bored' and destructive.

And saying he will get along with kids and cats and other dogs, with no hesitation? Yeah ok,tell that to Dante who won't tolerate other dogs in her yard. Not every Akita, mix or not, will get along with cats or kids, either.

Way to have an innocent puppy get brought back when the new owners deem it too much to handle.

All because you can't do abit of research on the breeds you are trying to get adopted, mix or not.

Edit-551pm- I broke down and sent them an email about it earlier.

In regards to today's(Jan 4, 06) SPCA adoption spotlight on the Akita Mix puppies.
>The misinformation they are spouting as well as lack of information, about the breed is appalling.
>Akitas shed twice a year, actually 'blow coat', so saying you don't know whether he'll shed or not- come on already, every breed sheds.
>Yes, he's going to be large, but saying he's a strictly indoors dog until spring? Akitas need lots of exercise so they don't become bored and destructive.
>Saying he will get along with kids and cats and other dogs, with no hesitation? Ok,tell that to Dante, my 12 yr old Akita, who won't tolerate other dogs in her yard. Not every Akita or dog, mix or not, will get along with cats or kids, either.
>I strongly suggest that the next time you have a mixed breed dog/puppy who happens to have a breed in it that currently is being persecuted thanks to BSL in numerous cities and states, that you do the research before you go on TV and misinform people . Hopefully you will.

This is the response I got back-

Thanks for the email.

Heh. Maybe they'll take it to heart and not make what could potential become a drastic mistake next time.
